Description
LE PETIT (Alfred) & BALZAC (Honoré de). The Three Clerks of Saint Nicholas. Illustrated and illuminated by Alfred LE PETIT, the second of that name. Paris, René Kieffer, 1926. In-8, raspberry-coloured calfskin, plain spine with decoration, gilt title, date at the tail, framed with gilt fillets and fleurons with a large central gilt fleuron featuring small ironwork, lining and endpapers in grass-green calfskin, beige calfskin band with a garland of gilt fleurons and blind-stamped dots, gilt headband, colour-illustrated cover and spine preserved (Léon Lapersonne). Calligraphy and numerous illustrations by A. Le Petit within the text, coloured using stencils. Print run of 600 copies; no. 236 of 500 on vat-bleached vellum. Spine badly sun-faded, otherwise a fine copy in a lined and signed binding.
