The Belt of Venus. Hills and Landscapes of My Country [Nice and the Côte d’Azur] from the former French border to the Trophy of Augustus. Preface by Camille Mauclair. Separate watercolour plates by E. LESSIEUX. Illustrations by G.A. MOSSA. Paris, Brocherioux, 1923. In-4, green morocco, spine with four decorated raised bands, engraved and painted leather panels depicting towns on the Côte d’Azur on the front cover and spine, double gilt line framing and mosaic-style florets on the back cover and within the inner frame, gilt headband, colour illustrated cover preserved, in a slipcase with flaps (E. Berthet).
Portrait of the author as a frontispiece, 17 colour plates as inserts and attractive stencilled decorations on every page. Limited edition of 525 copies; no. 39 of the 33 printed on Dutch laid paper, containing a double suite in bistre and grey, printed prior to the main text, with engraved underlayers serving as the basis for the reproduction of the 17 colour plates.
Spine sun-faded and worn, but otherwise a very fine copy, attractively bound and enhanced with an ‘E.A.S.’ (Exemplar à la Signora e al Signor Bonmartin) from the publisher to Mrs and Mr Bonmartin.
