LM bookplate bearing the motto ‘Pulcrum Bonum Verum’ : Louis Meley (1850–1924), an industrialist and major collector from Algiers. He built up a significant collection at his villa in Aïn Taya, near Algiers, thanks to his discerning taste and solid artistic knowledge. Particularly close to Auguste Rodin, from whom he acquired a major work directly, he collected pieces by renowned artists such as Bourdelle, Renoir and Gauguin, as well as painters with links to Algeria: Dinet, Racim, Suréda and Mammeri. A generous art lover, he regularly welcomed these artists into his home and maintained a lively correspondence with them, turning his residence into a hub of exchange and creativity.
