Ecclesiastical and Civil History of Brittany, compiled from the original authors and sources, illustrated with various historical monuments, and enriched with a treatise on the settlement of the Bretons in Armorica, and with several critical notes. [- and enriched with a Historical Catalogue of the Bishops of Brittany, and a new supplement of Evidence]. Paris, Delaguette, 1750–1756. 2 substantial grand folio volumes, marbled sheepskin, spine with ornate raised bands, red edges (contemporary binding). Scuffed, with some skin wear and gnawing in places. The illustrations consist of two vignettes bearing the coat of arms of Brittany on the title pages, headers (including two copperplate engravings by Guétard after Humblot), wood-engraved initials and tailpieces, a fold-out general map of Brittany (a few holes at a fold) and 25 separate plates. [Followed by:] Mémoires pour servir de preuves à l’Histoire ecclésiastique et civile de Bretagne. Paris, Osmont, 1742–1746. 3 large folio volumes, marbled sheepskin, spine with decorated raised bands, red edges (contemporary binding). Scuffed, with some skin wear and gnawing in places. 35 (18+17) plates of seals at the end. One loose quire. First edition of this important and monumental reference work, funded by the Estates of Brittany and compiled by Dom Morice, following on from those by d’Argentré and Lobineau.
