COLBERT (N.J.), Marquis de Chabanais

5 volumes, large 8vo; illustrated with maps and plans, some of which are double-page spreads.
Printed on laid paper; the paper is very white apart from a few small pinholes on the first few leaves of each volume.
½ grey Bradel-style percaline binding, smooth spines with some fading, titles, volume numbers and small gilt lettering; untrimmed copy.
General Colbert (1777–1809) enlisted as a volunteer soldier at the age of 16 in 1793. He took part in the Italian, Egyptian and Syrian campaigns, and subsequently fought on most of the battlefields during the campaigns in Germany, Prussia, Poland and Spain, where he was killed in 1809. These ‘memoirs’ are more a collection of biographical recollections, supported in particular by family archives, compiled by his son.
