Description
Paris QUAGLIA (Fernando) The Cemeteries of Paris. A collection of the most remarkable funerary monuments with their inscriptions. Paris, Paris, Lévy fils, n.d. (c. 1850). In folio: 24 double-page plates mounted on tabs depicting over two hundred monuments (engraved by Collette) ½ brown sheepskin of the period, title and gilt lettering on a smooth spine, slightly sun-faded, a few small scuffs. A fine copy. A rare collection of illustrations of remarkable tombs, graves and funerary monuments found in the cemeteries of Paris. The lithographs feature up to ten monuments per plate. They were selected for the ornamentation and architectural features of the monument, as well as for the renown of the deceased. An extremely rare volume cataloguing statues that are indicative of the great richness and extreme diversity of French funerary sculpture.
