REILLE (Karl), Baron
Contemporary French Hunting. Paris, Le Goupy, 1914.
A substantial in-4 volume; illustrated with colour and bistre engravings, including 32 full-page colour plates by the author. Limited edition of 600 numbered copies (IUA). A fine original watercolour by the author depicting a pack of hounds chasing a hare, with a horseman playing a horn in the background (signed).
English green morocco leather, signed ‘CRETTÉ succ. de Marius MICHEL’, smooth spine with decorative motifs of diamonds, horns and hares, green bands and gold fillets as dividers, double endpapers, one of brown suede-like material, the other of handmade paper, flyleaf with a frieze of fabric braid, gilt edges, half-morocco slipcase with overlapping cover and protective slipcase.
First edition of this superb volume, which presents the various hunting parties classified by hunting region. “A sought-after volume that is becoming increasingly rare” (Thiébaud, 772).
