Description
Indochina – Ceramics RIVIÈRE (Henri) Ceramics in Far Eastern Art. A collection of one hundred and sixty-two pieces reproduced in colour from originals selected from museums and collections in France and abroad. Preface by Charles Vignier. Paris, Albert Lévy, Librairie centrale des Beaux-Arts, 1923. 2 folio volumes in loose-leaf format; 100 colour plates of ceramics from China, Korea, the Luzon Islands and Japan, mounted on fine paper and evenly distributed throughout the two volumes. Scattered foxing on the title pages. Limited edition of 300 copies on Rives paper. In colour-printed cloth covers, fastened with laces, housed in printed slipcases in need of restoration (some covers have detached sections). Unique first edition of this impressive and important monograph. The Chinese, Korean and Japanese ceramics come for the most part from French private collections, including those of Rivière himself, the renowned collector Raymond Koechlin, the antiquarian Garbis Kalebdjian and the fashion designer Jacques Doucet. This volume follows on from his similar study on Islamic art, *La Céramique dans l'art musulman* (1913), and is equally magnificently produced, with the plates printed in colour.
