WILDE (Oscar) – [BEARDSLEY (Aubrey)] Salomé. A tragedy in one act. London, Lane; New York, Lane Company, 1920 (text) – Slne, 1907 (portfolio). Square in-8 volume (text in English (1920 edition)) with a frontispiece and 11 plates - Portfolio (large in-4) containing an engraved half-title and 16 large black-and-white plates by Aubrey BEARDSLEY (making a total of 17 plates). Printed on Japanese paper for the portfolio. Red cloth with gilt decoration on the upper cover for the in-8 volume containing the text (1920 edition) and a half-ecru cloth slipcase with flapped corners, gilded title on the front cover, fastened with laces (one strap missing) for the portfolio (Slne, 1907). Beardsley’s striking illustrations, some of which were not published until 1907. This is the book that springs to mind for most people when they think of Beardsley. A fine set comprising two different editions. Rare.
