Description
Theatre, comedy – Bordeaux
HOURSIANGOU (Jules)
A substantial collection of documents, letters, manuscripts of various plays, songs, photographs of the theatre company, correspondence, photographs of the author, various documents and press cuttings, caricatures of boxers…
There are also numerous colour drawings of characters, and various costume designs in gouache on tracing paper or paper.
Most of the documents are in paper or cardboard folders, some with titles and watercolour drawings. Some plays feature small watercolour drawings in the margins or within the text.
Jules Hoursiangou, a member and later president of ‘L’Avenir Théâtral’, an artistic, operatic and dramatic society (2 Cours de la Marne, Bordeaux), wrote numerous plays and ‘revue-style’ pieces, particularly for this society. He also composed songs to earn a living, vaudeville sketches and comic plays. The author also possessed a modest talent as an illustrator, enabling him to ‘illustrate’ some of his works, and he also designed costume proposals for the plays.
He is not particularly well known, but was part of the Bordeaux theatre scene from the 1920s to the 1950s.
