A statesman from Béarn, he was a loyal supporter of Richelieu. Appointed a Councillor of State in 1639, it was on Richelieu’s orders that Pierre de MARCA published *De Concordia...* ’ in response to the 1740 work ‘Optati, galli, de cavendo schismate…’ by Dr Charles Hersent.
