La Chambre Bleue. A short story dedicated to Madame de La Rhune. Illustrated with 61 watercolours after Eugène COURBOIN. Paris, Conquet, Carteret & Cie, 1902.
In-4; numerous colour illustrations, including 8 insets. Contributor’s copy, on Japanese paper (unjustified).
Half blue morocco with Bradel-style filleted corners signed CARAYON, title and gilt fillets on smooth spine, original publisher’s cover preserved, untrimmed. Good condition.
The first edition was printed in Biarritz in 1866 in a run of just three copies.
This short story is dedicated to Empress Eugénie, referred to here by the name of a peak in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques (La Rhune), where the author had gone on an excursion with the imperial court.
