Description
Béarn – Lescar
The Lescar Breviary of 1541, reprinted with an introduction and notes on our ancient local liturgies. Pau, Ribaut; Paris, Picard, 1891.
Large quarto. Printed in red and black with framed text, a few illustrations and coats of arms within the text.
½ burgundy chagrin with filleted corners, decorated ribbed spine, gilt head.
As the Bayonne Missal, published by the same publisher, had a print run of 265 copies (including 15 on Holland paper), it is possible that this volume, although published earlier and without any indication of print run, was produced in the same quantity. Facsimile edition of the Latin breviary. The extensive preface, of undoubted historical interest, could form the subject of a book in its own right (Barbe 276).
