[LITERATURE] VOLTAIRE (François-Marie Arouet de): History of the War of 1741. Second edition, revised and corrected by the author. Geneva (Paris), 1756. 2 volumes in one in-12 volume, comprising (4)-278 pp. and (4)-208 pages. Full marbled sheepskin binding. Ribbed spine, decorated with gilt metalwork and fleurons. First draft of the *Précis du siècle de Louis XV* published in 1768 by Cramer. Appointed the King’s historiographer on 1 April 1745, Voltaire was duty-bound to celebrate the merits of his benefactor, a task he undertook as early as 1748 by setting about writing a *History of the War of 1741*. The text ends after the account of the Battle of Fontenoy, followed by ‘Addition to the History of the War of 1741. The Genoa Affair, 1746 & 1747’, whilst the complete manuscript extended as far as the Peace of Aachen.
