René Le Berryais, an agronomist and collaborator of Duhamel de Monceau, presents with this ‘nouveau de La Quintinye’ one of the most comprehensive treatises of the 18th century on the art of arboriculture, vegetable gardening, ornamental gardening and greenhouse cultivation. For each type of garden, he provides ‘a description and cultivation guide’ for all known plants (for example, in Volume I, Le Berryais lists 22 species of cherry, 30 of apple and nearly 90 species of pear; in Volume II, there are descriptions of asparagus, cucumbers, beans, turnips and radishes, etc.)
