Description
[PRESS CARTOONS] 132 original ink drawings by PEM and E.TAP, prior to layout, for the newspaper *La Victoire* by Gustave Hervé and Elisée Reclus. 1919. They include caricatures of Léon Blum, Édouard Herriot, Laval and Daladier. Gustave Hervé (1871–1944): French journalist and polemicist, founder of the newspaper *La Guerre sociale*, which became *La Victoire* in 1916. In 1919, he helped found the National Socialist Party, advocating a form of national socialism that was anti-communist and anti-parliamentary, which many described as fascist. Ink drawings executed with a confident hand. A fine collection offering a glimpse into the polemical press of the interwar period.
