Full contemporary binding in bronze-green morocco. Minor scuffs along the spine, front cover. Covers edged with a gilt fillet and a cold-stamped frieze. In the centre of each cover, the crowned coat of arms of the Duchess of Berry. The combined coat of arms of the Duchess of Berry (Marie-Caroline of Bourbon-Sicily, 1798–1870) combine the fields of her husband, the Duke of Berry (France / Bourbon), with those of her own ancestral house (the Bourbons of the Two Sicilies). Composition of the coat of arms On the dexter side (centre of the shield): the arms of France (three gold fleurs-de-lis on an azure field) with a serrated border in gules, corresponding to the rank of her husband Charles-Ferdinand of France, Duke of Berry. On the left: the arms of the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies (the solid Bourbon arms of the modern era surrounded by a gules border charged with gold shells, or, according to the Naples/Sicily variants of the ruling dynasty of her father, Francis I of the Two Sicilies).
