Royal Almanac, 1778. First presented to His Majesty in 1699 by Laurent d’Houry, the publisher’s grandfather
Paris, d’Houry, n.d.
8vo, 650 pp., Full marbled light-coloured calfskin binding, spine with fleur-de-lis raised bands, gilt edges (contemporary binding). Triple gilt fillet around the edge of each cover. Minor wear to the top and bottom corners. Cracked joint on the lower panel (spine – second cover).
The official court directory of the 18th century. In addition to the indispensable calendar, this work notably includes dates of birth and marriages, a list of members of the clergy, officials of the Royal Households, army officers, political figures (Members of Parliament, Councillors of State, farmers-general), and members of orders of chivalry; a list of libraries, members of the Academies, royal surgeons and apothecaries, and the most important fairs; the departure times of the postal and passenger services, etc...
