Description
[AUTOGRAPH] BERLIOZ, Hector (1803–1869) Autograph letter signed ‘H. Berlioz’. No place, no date. 2 pp. in-12. Faint stains. ‘My dear friend. I shall not have the pleasure of dining with you next Thursday; I have long been committed to a country engagement on that day. I have just sent my apologies and regrets to Mme de Bury [Baroness Rode Blaze de Bury] at 18 Rue du Cherche-Midi. I am giving you this address so that you do not go looking for midday at 2 o’clock. Ah! yes, it was GRAND. Now that’s a FINE OPENING! Three fine openings, in fact… ‘Ballots’! Do you say that? It should be ‘Balais’! There are so many things and so many people to sweep away! Yours sincerely. I am leaving for London very soon […]”. We would like to thank Ms Mathilde Lalin-Leprévost for her expertise; she is an expert in ancient manuscripts, rare letters and archives, and a member of the Compagnie Nationale des Experts (CNE).
