[AUTOGRAPHS] Charles DOLLFUS Charles Dollfus was a French aeronaut and historian, former curator of the Meudon Museum of Aeronautics, born on 31 March 1893 in the 8th arrondissement of Paris and died on 3 July 1981 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. A passionate and creative aviation historian: a number of his works rank amongst the foremost in the history of aviation. His enthusiasm for ballooning, which drew him to balloons as early as 1911, never left him, and he continued to make flights right up until 1978. He took part in all forms of aerial sport, either as a pilot or a passenger, and was the first French passenger to make the double crossing of the South Atlantic aboard the Graf Zeppelin. Throughout his life, he demonstrated a fervent and creative passion dedicated to aviation and its history. 2 logbooks (16 x 9 cm), containing drawings and annotations, with comments by Charles Dollfus. - Logbook, bearing the inked stamp ‘C. D.’ on the first page. 23 pencil and coloured pencil drawings, depicting aircraft (balloons) with their identifications: US General Russel Jhayer’s war balloon (1885), Saint Amand plate. Charles’s balloon (1st November 1783) - The plates depicting this balloon often bear the caption: ‘Bon voyage’, ‘Plat de Saint Amand’. Blanchard’s ascent on 28 March 1786, from Douai to L’Étoile (Picardy). This balloon passed over Saint Arnaud, etc... - Notebook with loose cover. 21 pages, with drawings in black ink. Drawings of ascents by aeronauts, plates or depictions of ascents: [DRAWING] Appearance of three suns simultaneously on the horizon, 18 January 1693, after J. Cassini – [DRAWING] Father Kircher’s magnifying glasses (1646) from the *Ars magna lucis et umbrae* – [DRAWING] Painted ivory bonbonnière depicting Blanchard’s balloon, 2 March 1784, at the Champ de Mars – [DRAWING] Luminous phenomenon observed on the horizon on 21 May 1672 and 21 March 1692, according to Cassini."
