The Antilian School is a renowned London school, which admits only pupils native to the West Indies. Thanks to a generous donation from Mistress Seymour, a wealthy landowner from Barbados, nine scholarship students are offered a study trip across the Caribbean, accompanied by their mentor Horatio Patterson, the school’s bursar. The novel recounts their adventures.
The illustrations include a full-page map, several dozen photographs within the text and as full-page plates, and 59 engravings by Benett, including 12 chromotype plates outside the text.
A hardback copy with a gilded globe (Type 4), with the back cover of the ‘Engel i’ type.
A few stains on the binding; the inner hinge of the front cover is fragile. Foxing.
