Description
[CAMEROON]. Boundary-delimitation mission. French Equatorial Africa: Cameroon, 1912–1913–1914. [Paris: Marc Imhaus and René Chapelot, c. 1915]. — In-4, 263 x 193: 52 plates, (1 f.). Publisher’s binding in green percaline, with a gold and black framed plaque on the front cover, embellished with black-and-white photographs in the centre and along the edges; plain, unmarked spine. A very rare album documenting the boundary-demarcation mission in French Equatorial Africa led by Captain Louis Périquet (1874–1929) from 1912 to 1914. The ‘boundary-delimitation missions’ in French Equatorial Africa (AEF) refer to the colonial expeditions tasked with officially establishing the borders between French territories and those of neighbouring powers (such as Anglo-Egyptian Sudan or German Cameroon) in the early 20th century. This album relates to the Périquet mission, which established the territorial boundaries between French Equatorial Africa and German Cameroon. It comprises 52 superb photographic plates on heavy paper, mounted on tabs; the first depicts the group that took part in this mission, whilst the others feature portraits, scenes of daily life and views of Cameroon. This volume was published without a title. It usually replaces Volume II – which was never published – of the General Report on the A.E.F.-Cameroon Demarcation Mission (1912–1913–1914), published in four volumes by Périquet. A very well-preserved copy.
