Description
CENDRARS (Blaise). Kodak (documentary). Paris: Librairie Stock, 1924. — In-16, 194 x 141: (3 blank folios at the beginning), 97 pp., (1 blank folio), illustrated cover. Paperback, covered binding. First edition published in the ‘Poésie du temps’ collection, illustrated with a full-page portrait of the author, drawn by Francis PICABIA, and a pink composition by Frans MASEREEL on the cover. *Kodak* (subtitled *Documentaire*) is a collection of poems exploring, primarily, American modernity through fragmentary, cinematic texts, conceived as photographic snapshots – hence the original title *Kodak*, before the brand objected, forcing the addition of the subtitle. Whilst the book references African Americans in the poem ‘The South’, Africa also features, notably in the poems ‘Le Bahr-el-Zeraf’ and ‘Elephant Hunt’. One of 77 numbered copies on Holland paper (no. XLI), the second paper edition following 27 copies on old Japanese paper in the traditional format. Slight browning on the cover.
