Description
GUGLIELMI (Joseph) – ARMAN. Afrikan matricule. No place: Flammarion 4, [1998]. — Folio, 420 x 300: (2 ff.), 44 pp., (4 ff., the last two blank), unmarked cover. Loose-leaf, bound cover, in the publisher’s wooden slipcase. First edition of Joseph Guglielmi’s poem, reproduced as a facsimile of the poet’s autograph manuscript, illustrated with 26 original lithographs within the text, created by the painter and visual artist ARMAN (1928–2005). This volume opens the ‘Superstitions’ collection, edited by Tita Reut and entirely devoted to Arman. Limited edition of 112 copies on ivory Rivoli paper, signed by the poet and the artist on the flyleaf. This copy (no. 7) is one of the first 25 to be accompanied by an original drawing by Arman, signed and accompanied by a few handwritten verses by the poet. This drawing is presented here in the frame specially designed for the exhibition of the gouaches during the book launch at the Nicaise bookshop on 22 January 1998. Enriched copy: - an autographed letter from Arman to Claude Mozis, accompanied by an original drawing depicting a Fang statuette (Gabon), with the dedication: ‘For Claude Mozis // who lived so close to the FANGS. // Arman’; - the book’s press pack; - several invitation cards to the book launch; - a copy of the promotional leaflet; - as well as an invitation to the exhibition ‘Arman. Out of Africa. Walker Evans. African Negro Art’, held at the Galerie Cueto (Paris) on 17 March 1999. A very well-preserved copy.
