Description
KESSEL (Joseph) – SIMON (Jacques).
Vent de sable.
Paris: Les Bibliophiles de l’Aéro-club de France, 1931. — In-4, 277 x 218: 165 pp., (4 ff.), blank endpaper, illustrated cover. Half-shagreen bound in black morocco with bands, smooth spine, silver-edged on endpapers, cover and spine preserved (J. Anthoine-Legrain).
A deluxe edition printed in a run of 125 copies on Arches vellum, illustrated with 33 original etchings by Jacques SIMON, including one on the cover, as well as a double-page map silhouette in the text, showing the route of the air route from Paris to Buenos Aires.
One of the contributors’ copies (no. V), enhanced with a menu illustrated with an etching by the artist, and, in a separate folder, one of the 20 sets of etchings on Japanese paper with notes, as well as a four-sheet portfolio comprising two original drawings signed by the artist. The first drawing is the one reproduced—albeit inverted—on page 34, whilst the second drawing corresponds to the illustration on page 77.
A fine copy bound by Jacques Anthoine-Legrain (1907–1970), son-in-law and assistant to Pierre Legrain.
A few scattered foxing spots. The spine of the folder containing the suite is worn.
