Caribbean Winter. Documentary.
Paris: Ernest Flammarion, [1929]. — In-8, 183 x 175: 259 pp., (1 f.), printed cover. Orange half-maroquin with corner pieces, gilt fillets, ribbed spine decorated with gilt and mosaic motifs, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, slipcase (R. Blaizot).
First edition of this travelogue devoted to the West Indies.
This title, together with *Paris-Tombouctou* (1928) and the collection *Magie noire* (1928), forms part of the trilogy in which Morand explored cultures of African origin across their global diaspora (the United States, the West Indies, Africa). The book takes the form of a travel journal written during journeys to the West Indies and America in 1927 and 1928. It includes, in particular, reflections on the Voodoo religion (notably in Haiti), political analyses, and observations on the Black populations of the West Indies, their customs, beliefs and culture, etc.
One of the first 65 copies printed on Japanese paper (no. 59), beautifully bound by Robert Blaizot.
Spine slightly faded, normal wear and tear to the head and foot of the spine and the hinge of the front cover.
