Paris, 1921–1922. — 9 issues in one in-8 volume, 224 × 142: 16 pp.; 16 pp.; 16 pp.; 16 pp.; 16 pp., printed cover; 16 pp., printed cover; (8 ff.), printed cover; 16 pp., printed cover; 16 pp., printed cover. Bradel-style cardboard binding with dominoté paper, smooth spine, untrimmed, covers preserved (contemporary binding). A set comprising the first 9 issues, published from March 1921 to April 1922, out of the 16 published in this monthly avant-garde literary journal, founded by Georges Duveau, Gérard Rosenberg, Pierre Villoteau, Jean Albert-Weil and Maurice David. It was edited by Gérard Rosenthal. Numerous writers contributed to this publication, several of whom were associated with the Surrealist movement. Among the names featured in these nine issues are André Salmon, Max Jacob, Maurice Martin du Gard, Léon-Pierre Quint, Jean Cocteau, Paul Morand, Pierre Mac Orlan, René Chalupt, Blaise Cendrars, Tristan Derème, Francis Carco, Raymond Radiguet, and others. The journal published several pieces devoted to Black people or slavery, notably *Le Nègre* (no. 2), *Péripkes et Cie* (no. 3) and *Adieu au Pittoresque* (no. 4) by Mathias Lübeck, *Elagabale*. *La Bonté du dieu* (no. 6) by Robert Honnert, *Taxi de Shackleton* (no. 8) by Émile Fernandez, and *Continent noir* (no. 9) by Blaise Cendrars. A very well-bound copy in excellent condition, despite the browned spine and a few foxing spots on the endpapers and edges. Provenance: François Laveissière, with a signed bookplate by Guy Arnoux.
