Description
SENGHOR (Léopold Sédar) – CHAGALL (Marc).
Elegy of the Trade Winds.
[Paris]: Éditions du Seuil, [1969]. — In-4, 280 x 224: 25 pp., (3 leaves, the last one blank), 1 plate, printed cover. Unbound, cover pasted in.
First edition of this work by Léopold Sédar Senghor, dedicated to his wife Colette (1925–2019).
It is a poem that is at once a personal lament, a reflection on time and an affirmation of Negritude, in which Senghor transforms pain into art and absence into poetic presence.
The edition is illustrated with an original lithograph by Marc CHAGALL (1887–1985), appearing separately from the text.
Cover slightly soiled.
