First edition of this collection of poems exploring African identity, Negritude, love, death, spirituality and a critique of colonisation. One of 210 copies numbered on ‘Sirène de Sainte-Marie’ paper, the only print run on large-format paper (no. 29), featuring this autograph dedication signed by the author on the half-title page: To Pierre Klein, // who became Senegalese alongside // the Senegalese, // these poems of old age, // as a friendly tribute // Senghor // 29 November 1979 Copy enhanced with a printed thank-you card from Senghor, as well as a signed letter from the author, 1 page in-4, dated 13 September 1983 and addressed to the writer Jean Bodin-Millancay, regarding his novel entitled *Le Merlin et la suite*: ‘Here is a work full of vigour, imagination and life all at once.
