Description
Hassan MASSOUDY (born 1944) Calligraphic works. Two works in black ink on paper and mixed media. Unsigned. 65 x 50 cm (sheets) (x2). Signs of handling Note: Born in 1944 in Najaf, Hassan Massoudy devoted himself to the study of drawing and calligraphy from a very young age, notably by becoming an apprentice to several calligraphers in Baghdad in 1961. Leaving Iraq due to the political situation, Massoudy settled in France in 1969. Whilst studying at the École des Beaux-Arts, he developed his figurative painting technique, eventually incorporating the art of calligraphy and making it a central feature of his body of work. In the 1970s, he formed a trio with Guy Jacquet and Fawzy Al Aïedy, known as the group Khamsa, and organised the shows ‘L’Arabesque à voir et à entendre’, an artistic performance in which music, Arabic songs and calligraphy projected onto a screen were the key elements of the show.
