Victor HUGO. *Les contemplations*. Paris, Michel Lévy, 1856. 2 vols. in 8½, in contemporary binding with ribbed spine. Minor wear and tear. Foxing. 2nd edition. Included is a letter from Paul Meurice, addressed to Mr Claye, a printer in Paris, regarding the printing of this edition, ‘using the same typeface and in the same format as the first’, dated 25 April 1856. Paul Meurice was a playwright and novelist, and a friend of Victor Hugo. Bookplate by J. Réande.
