Description
Two posters from the exhibition “Popular Imagery in the Islamic World” held at Argenteuil Municipal Library from 22 April to 11 May 1985, and subsequently at the Fondation de l’Imagerie in Épinal from 16 June to 16 July 1986.
60 x 41 cm and 59 x 68 cm
Signs of handling.
Provenance: Collection of Guy Yves Jacquet (1931–1991)
Note: This exhibition is based on a collection of images acquired at markets in Morocco and Kashmir, illustrating the imagination and collective memory of Muslim society. The images presented in the forthcoming lots were a real passion for Guy Jacquet, who included them in his collection. Indeed, these images illustrated a cultural code, a set of symbols recognisable to members of the same community. The subject matter is traditional, featuring holy sites and places of pilgrimage, accompanied by a juxtaposition of images reminiscent of a comic strip, and is intended to be accessible to the public.
