Description
Hassan MASSOUDY (born 1944) Calligraphic works. 4 artist’s proofs. Signed, dated 1981 and 1982, and numbered in graphite. 66 x 50 cm (x2) and 54 x 76 cm. Signs of handling, small tears. Note: Born in 1944 in Najaf, Hassan Massoudy devoted himself from a very young age to the study of drawing and calligraphy, notably by becoming an apprentice to several calligraphers in Baghdad in 1961. Leaving Iraq due to the political situation, Massoudy settled in France in 1969. Whilst studying at the École des Beaux-Arts, he developed his figurative painting technique, eventually incorporating the art of calligraphy and making it a central feature of his body of work. In the 1970s, he formed a trio with Guy Jacquet and Fawzy Al Aïedy, known as the group Khamsa, and organised the shows ‘L’Arabesque à voir et à entendre’, an artistic performance in which music, Arabic songs and calligraphy projected onto a screen were the key elements of the show.
