Description
A collection of around twenty popular colour prints depicting places of pilgrimage, holy sites and religious figures from Islam.
Sizes range from approximately 32 x 49 cm to 71 x 50 cm (as individual sheets).
Signs of handling and small tears.
Provenance: Collection of Guy Yves Jacquet (1931–1991).
Note: This exhibition is based on a collection of images acquired at markets in Morocco and Kashmir, illustrating the imagination and collective memory of Muslim society. The images presented in the forthcoming lots were a real passion for Guy Jacquet, which found its place within his collection. Indeed, these images illustrated a cultural code, a set of symbols recognisable to members of the same community. The theme is traditional, featuring holy sites and places of pilgrimage, accompanied by a juxtaposition of images reminiscent of a comic strip, and is intended to be accessible to the public.
