Sizes range from 25 x 36 cm to 29 x 36 cm Signs of wear Provenance: Collection of Guy Yves Jacquet (1931–1991) Note: Guy Jacquet’s exhibition ‘Ciel arabe’ (Arabian Sky) showcases the scientific work of Arab scholars in the field of astronomy, notably through Abd al-Rahman al-Soufi’s treatise, ‘The Book of Fixed Stars’, published in 964. Astronomy was a discipline used not only by scholars, but also by religious figures, travellers, cartographers, provincial administrations and even the postal services.
