Bound in-8 in full cream vellum, first cover decorated with the drawing of the first chapter, smooth spine decorated with the painted title, gilt head, case bordered in gold and full marbled paper (binding signed Mertens). French translation of the "Song of Songs" of 1316 illustrated with 17 compositions by George Barbier printed in black and gold, including one for the cover, 13 hors texte and 3 in the text. Very good condition, last cover rubbed only. THIS BOOK IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND RARE BY GEORGE BARBIER, especially on Japan. Published in 1914, at the beginning of Barbier's career, it is already art-deco inspired.
