First edition illustrated with 39 original burins by Jean-Émile Laboureur, including a frontispiece and 38 vignettes in the text. Unique edition of 412 numbered copies on Lafuma-Navarre vellum. For Paul Istel, quoted in Plaisir de bibliophile in 1927, it was with this "charming novel by Valery Larbaud" that "Laboureur definitively established his reputation". In fact, according to Antoine Coron, it was "Laboureur's first great illustrated book" and one of his major successes.
