Description
THE SONG OF SONGS. F.-L. Schmied Paris 1925. One of the major books of the art-deco period and one of the masterpieces of François-Louis Schmied, who designed the typography and produced the entire edition, carrying out the wood engraving and printing on his own wood presses. It is illustrated with sumptuous wood-engraved compositions in colour, enhanced with gold and silver: a large composition on each page with bands and initials, a full-page illustration and 6 three-quarter-page illustrations. Edition of 110 copies on Arches vellum signed by the artist, including a black suite (the plate used by the bookbinder is missing). Complete with later-printed false title and medallion. Discharges of the engravings. Beautifully bound in-8, half blue morocco bradel folder with corners, mosaic decoration of a deer on the spine, inspired by an illustration, slipcase (binding signed René Aussourd).
