MAETERLINCK Maurice: La Vie des abeilles. Société des Amis du Livre Moderne Paris 1908. Edition produced under the artistic direction of Charles Meunier and Léon Thévenin, decorated with 70 wood-engraved compositions in colour by Carlos Schwabe, including 2 on the cover, one in the frontispiece and 67 in the text. The artist also illustrated Les Fleurs du mal (1900) and Les Paroles d'un croyant (1908) for Charles Meunier, marking the beginning of a long collaboration between the two men. Edition of 150 copies on tinted vellum, this being one of 125 nominative copies reserved for members. Beautiful mosaic binding by Charles Meunier, also a publisher. Full fawn morocco in-8, floral and foliage composition mosaic in green morocco and different shades of brown, climbing along the edges of the first plate, with a multitude of golden bees foraging and flying, spine decorated with two gilt bees and cold fillets underlining the nerves and running across the boards, interior framing of mosaic chestnut flowers alternating with gilt bees, lining and endpapers of brocaded silk in blue and green tones, double endpapers, gilt edges, cover and spine, case (Ch. Meunier 1914).
