Description
BARRELIER (Jacques). *Plantae per Galliam Hispaniam et Italiam*. Edited and compiled by Antonii de Jussieu. Paris, Stéphane Ganeau, 1714, folio, porphyry calf, decorated ribbed spine, gilt scrolls framing the covers, corner medallions, coat of arms in the centre, gilt edges (later binding). Engraved title-page and frontispiece, 1,327 engraved plates on 333 leaves. A most valuable work published by Antoine de Jussieu using the copper plates left by Jacques Barrelier, who did not publish his work during his lifetime and whose manuscripts were burnt. Bearing the coat of arms of Antoine Gavinet (1724–1795), and featuring his bookplate. A fine copy despite some minor scuffing.
