GALLONIO (Antonio). *De SS. martyrum cruciatibus*. Paris, n.p. [Cramoisy], 1659, in-4, ivory vellum (imitation binding). First Parisian edition. The 44 copperplate engravings by the Florentine artist Antonio Tempesta (1555–1630) depict the tortures inflicted upon Christian martyrs: crucifixion, quartering, suspension with weights, flogging, burning alive and the removal of the eyes. Well-executed imitation binding.
