Description
PREVOST D'EXILES (Antoine-François). A General History of Travel, or A New Collection of All Accounts of Journeys by Sea and Land. Paris: Didot, 1746–1791, 4to, fawn calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, red edges (contemporary binding). A remarkable illustrated series comprising 639 maps and engravings. Very rare, including Volume XX, *Continuation of the General History of Travels*, published in Brussels by J. L. de Boubers in 1791, 21 years after Volume XIX. This easily explains the slight difference in decoration on the spine of Volume XX. In Volume I, map no. 13 is missing and map no. 14 is duplicated. Plate 4 of Volume V is missing, as is plate 11 in Volume XIX. Spine, cap bands and corners rubbed.
