Description
SAINT-SIMON (Louis de Rouvroy, Duke of). The Complete Works of Louis de Saint-Simon, intended to serve as a history of the courts of Louis XIV, the Regency and Louis XV. With notes, explanations and additions at the end of each volume, drawn from the correspondence and private papers of the author and of several princes and lords of his time. Strasbourg, J. G. Treuttel, 1791, 13 tomes, 6 volumes in-8, fawn sheepskin, plain spine with decoration (contemporary binding). A rare edition, still incomplete, largely adapted to the style and manner of the publisher, the Abbé Soulavie; this was to be the last of its kind, before the first publication intended to be complete, issued in 1829–1830 by General de Saint-Simon. Minor, insignificant wormholes on the spine. The lower cap of the first volume and the upper cap of the fourth volume are missing.
