Description
BALZAC (Honoré de). Complete Works. Paris: Furme, Dubouchet, Hetzel and Paulin, 1842–1848, 17 volumes in-8, green half-shagreen, ribbed spine, blind-stamped. First collective edition. “This work was originally intended to comprise only 17 volumes. The last three were published by Houssiaux to complete the first set, seven years after volume XVII.” (Clouzot). With the exception of volumes II to V, all volumes are first printings. Portrait of Balzac and 109 illustrations (out of 119), of which 6 are missing—as is often the case—and are generally found in volume XX; 4 out of 5 are missing from volume XVII, bearing in mind that these illustrations are frequently missing as they were only supplied at a later date. A fine copy in its original binding. Minor wear to the edges and corners. Scattered foxing. A faint water stain on the corner of Volume III.
