Description
CHATEAUBRIAND (François-René de). *Mémoires d'outre-tombe*. Paris, Penaud, 1849–1850, 12 vols. in-8, half-cowhide in a tan colour with small corners of green vellum, smooth spine, gilt and blind-stamped lines (contemporary binding). First edition of this masterpiece of French literature. A very complete copy, including the publisher’s foreword, the list of subscribers and the dedication to Delloye, which were omitted when the remainder of the print run passed into the hands of the bookseller Dion-Lambert. A fine copy in a simple, strictly contemporary binding. Trivial foxing and very slight rubbing on the spine; a small tear to the top cap of volume 11.
