Paris, Cahiers de la Quinzaine, 1913, large 12mo, Jansenist ultramarine blue morocco, ribbed spine, gilt fillet on the edges, cream morocco lining, gilt scroll border, gilt edges on sample, cover and spine preserved, half-morocco slipcase in midnight blue with bands, case (Huser).
First edition.
1/30 copies on Whatman paper, the only large-format paper used.
Published in the *Cahiers de la Quinzaine*, this Christian-inspired poem of 7,000 alexandrines was the journal’s final publication, on 23 December 1913. Péguy died on 15 September 1914 at the Battle of the Marne.
