CHIFFLET (Jean-Jacques): Insignia gentilitia Equitum Ordinis Velleris Aurei, as set out in the official text by Joanne Jacobo Chiffletio, published in Latin and French. The Blazon of the Coats of Arms of all the Knights of the Order of the Golden Fleece, from its foundation to the present day. Antwerp, from the Plantin Press of Balthasius Moretus, 1632. In-4°, comprising (14) ff.–233–(27) ff. blank–(16) ff., including a title page with engraved coat of arms and a very fine unsigned frontispiece: Jason displaying the Golden Fleece, within an oval surrounded by the emblems of the Order. Contemporary full vellum overbound binding, spine decorated with the emblems of the Order, red morocco title label, covers adorned with a central embossed fleur-de-lis, framed by a double gilt line with the emblems of the Order at the corners, and a modern protective slipcase. An extremely rare and unique copy, featuring an interesting catalogue of the coats of arms of the 378 Knights of the Golden Fleece, including 268 coats of arms finely drawn and hand-coloured in the margins, as well as two full-page coats of arms, one of the Sainte-Maure family, Duke of Montausier and Knight of the Order, and the other depicting the emblems of the Order of the Golden Fleece. First edition, bilingual, printed in two columns.
