Description
[GABORIT (Jean)] – Salins-les-Bains Fort Saint-André MANUSCRIPT: Extensive file concerning the surrender of Fort Saint-André in Salins, in the Jura. An exceptional collection of sixty documents relating to the events involving Commander Gaborit and Fort de Salins during the siege mounted by Austrian troops in September 1815. Folio-sized, in a modern protective slipcase, followed by a portfolio containing 23 handwritten letters concerning J. Gaborit. Jean Gaborit was born on 7 August 1775 in the department of Charente. In 1815, during the Hundred Days, he took command of Fort Saint-André de Salins; he was besieged for several days but was forced to surrender the fort following a mutiny by some of his troops. An investigation was launched against him; he was found guilty and sentenced to one year’s imprisonment.
