AUGUSTIN (saint).
Epistolarum selectarum libri tres. Flexiae [La Flèche], Georges Griveau, 1638. Small in-4, light fawn basane, border, small fleuron at the corners, coat of arms in the centre set off against a fleur-de-lis semé included in a diamond grid, smooth spine decorated in the same way, gilt edges (Binding of the period).
A rare printing from La Flèche (Sarthe) by the town's main typographer in the 17th century.
This prize book bears the coat of arms of Nicolas Guinet (1552-1622), a councillor in the King's High Council from a Lyonnais family. The ex-praemio, dated 1643, still bears his name and his status as donor.
Old handwritten bookplates on the title. Slight wetness on a few leaves. Corners, lower hinge and tail restored.
