Paris, Robert Estienne, 1549. 2 parts in one volume in-4, fawn calf, double framed with three cold fillets, small gilt fleuron at the corners, medallion in the centre decorated with interlacing on an azure background, spine decorated (Binding of the period).

Reprint of the original 1536 edition, also published by Estienne, decorated with numerous woodcuts depicting ancient ships, costumes and vases.
A famous work by Lazare de Baïf (1496-1547), a humanist who was adviser and ambassador to François I and the protector of the young Ronsard at the French court, containing three texts on naval art, costumes and the decoration of vases by the Ancients. It ends with a treatise on colours by Antonio Telesio, the Libellus de coloribus.
